Windows 10 OS on small tablets

Image
The Problem I have been searching for a solution to a specific use case for months now. My daughter rides horses. I take a LOT of pictures...of her and other riders at our barn (it's a horse thing)...especially at horse shows (which last for days). Well, people really like to see the pictures. And showing those on a camera, or even a phone kind of sucks. Potential Solution Get a small tablet....easy right?  Now, since it's a horse show, and I'm not made of money...I don't want to spend a lot of money on a solution, so iLemming stuff is out. I did my research and found an android tablet for $120 that seemed to work pretty well....the LG v520 8 inch tablet . Got it on Amazon. that was OK...it was working....it's even got a full size USB port which made transferring pictures off the camera super easy... New Problem Or rather, a new requirement to the original use case...I had this great idea to bring a TV and display the pictures...like, have a running sl

The Case for Metro Apps - They act like mobile apps

Image
I recently had a post about how an android tablet was helping me stay in contact with my various clients. A very smart developer friend of mine gave me an even better tip that saved me $500. Metro Apps! The Problem As I discussed in the earlier post The Case for Tablets , as a technology consultant, I have many clients and many email addresses to keep track of. A few of my clients give me a company email address. This is great, but they won't allow me to access the address on my personal outlook client for security concerns. This makes is very difficult to keep track of my schedule and comms. The Separate Device Solution Now I'm a tech guy...so any excuse to get another device is just awesome. So when I realized that I could access the corporate emails on a tablet gave me a great excuse to buy a supe'd up android tablet and a cool keyboard. I was great having a new device to play with. The Value Dilemma God is always good. 2 days after purchasing my tablet my main

The Case for Mobile OS Tablets - Consulting

The Problem As a technology consultant I have many clients that I serve at any one time. On long term engagements I get issued a laptop and company email account. However, most organisations don't allow you to access that account from another PC. So I'm left trying to manage my schedule and emails from multiple PCs. A Partial Solution AH! but they allow you to access email thru your phone. These devices have special security functions which allow the company to "reach" into your device and remove the account if they need to. OK, great. That solved the email problem....sort of...composing long responses on a phone is not fun. Plus, the calendar was on the phone, but not the computer. So you end up doing a whole backend forward, so you can put the meetings on your computer...but then your phone has double meetings for all your company stuff. It's a mess. WutWurx? So, what I'm trying now...is a tablet. Now, I'm not an iLemming. So I am using a Samsung

orb

I'll tell you wutwurx orb orb.com It's a free service that allows you to see just about ANYTHING on your home box, from ANYWHERE! Here's an example, at lunch, I watch sportscenter...on my cell phone...live... Basically, it's an application that serves up all the content on your computer, mostly pictures, videos, and music. It tells the orb servers what's on your home box. Then, let's say, from your office computer, you log into your orb account using any browser, they tell your office browser what your home computer is telling it you have on your home box. You get a list of all the music, photos and videos, you pick something, and the orb server will start streaming your home box's content to your office computer. eyt wurx!
